All About Active Release Technique

By Cassandra Blissworth

While physical ailments like muscle and joint pain you experience are seldom serious, it is for your own benefit if you address your condition as early as you can. The fact is, when such conditions are not given attention, they can take a toll on your part in a long run because they alter your mood in a the day, which has domino effects on your works, your productivity, your outlook in life.

Fortunately, you can try a number of ways that can help address physical conditions. As a matter of fact, some of these are healthy alternatives, which means you can have them applied to several conditions without worrying for any side effects.

Active Release Techniques (ART) is one good example of natural alternative that can address physical problems. It is a patented, state-of-the-art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that provides treatment to common body pains such as in muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. In addition, this approach can help address headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and a whole lot more.

Learning the 'ART'

First, it is highly recommended that you see an expert such as a chiropractor to perform the procedures designed in active release technique. He usually has the needed tools as well as an ideal place where the procedure has to be performed. In addition to that, being in the hands of a certified practitioner creates a feeling of added safety since there is somebody who is professional that will guide you through the process.

However, if going to a chiropractor is not the most convenient for you, you might want to try doing the procedure by yourself. There are a number of do-it-yourself ART procedure resources available online so you might want to take advantage of those.

And speaking of ART procedure, I thought it is good to give some insights about this particular approach. Check out the following:

*Every ART session is examination and treatment in one package. Part of the examination is the assessment of the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. The treatment (usually through the combination of precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements) follows when abnormal tissues are found.

*ART treatment protocols include over 500 specific moves, which allow a chiropractor to identify and correct specific problems affecting your condition.

*ART treatments can make a patient uncomfortable during the movement phases due to the scar tissue or adhesion "break-up" but such discomfort is just temporary and subsides almost immediately -- after the procedure is performed.

*You might be required to have up to twelve sessions or visits (8-12 minutes each session) to a service provider (chiropractor) before full functionality is restored.
