Where Python Programming Came From and Where It's Going

By Jeff Sanders

It is beyond debate that Python is the fastest-growing, most widely adapted coding language of recent years. Ever since it first came out, programmers have been fascinated by its capabilities. Some experts believe that the full potential of Python as a programming language is yet to be discovered by developers. Hence, it is not a shock that Python is now listed in the top10 of programming languages world wide. It currently holds the 9th spot, but will climb to the top as one of the most potent and valuable programming languages in the world.

Where Python Came From

Mr. Guido Van Rossum is the man responsible for creating Python, spending many years developing his first working versions. It is believed that he first began his work on the programming syntax in December 1989. It wasn't until over two years later, in February of 1991 that he released the first working version of the amazing language. The official release date was February 20th, 1991.

Classification of Python

Python consists of a general purpose coding set up and belongs to the category of high-level programming languages. The language was designed with readability being the highest priority, this is a design approach that focuses on ease-of-use, lower barrier of knowledge for users. The terms "clear", "concise", "expressive", words you usually don't hear associated with programming languages, are the top 3 describers of Python. It also comes with an impressive standard library that simplifies many of your programming tasks with its built-in functions. There are many Python training classes now available to learn the syntax, class methods, variables and more.

The Quick Evolution of this Open Source Language

A compiled set of user statistics, named Ohloh, covering programming languages was recently created by Black Duck Software. These Ohloh dataset stats show that this language is trumping usage volume, proving Python to be a front-runner.
