Fios Double Play

By Anne McKay

Broadband internet access has become a necessity in many residential households. Although there are other choices in most areas, the two main competitors that have risen above the others in the field are Verizon FiOS and Comcast Xfinity. They may seem very similar to you before you delve into the details, but the differences can be striking. If you are in the process of choosing broadband for your home, compare the two front runners and decide which one is right for you.

It's not easy to save money in these days, especially with the economy the way it is now, you really have to stretch that last buck. With the internet becoming a commodity, it just adds another anvil to your paycheck that sends it down under to the red zone. But what most people don't know is, it really doesn't have to. There are actually a lot of ways people can get great deals from ISPs, or internet service providers; if you're not up to speed.

Take Verizon's FIOS for example Verizon FIOS is probably the best one out there because they come in a number of bundles and packages that can really save you a lot more money in the long run. It actually pays for itself if you really think about it. But let's not get into accounting, let's focus on how to get the best deal on Verizon FIOS bundles.

Always take notice of promotions. ALWAYS You might think that most companies would put out promotions for selfish reasons, either their trying to make a quick buck, or raise awareness about their services.

You also get access to FiOS TV online, where you can enjoy your favorite premium channels like ESPN sports, HBO movies, Nickelodeon kids shows, EPIX and CNN news all while on the go. VerizonFiOS has thousands of hotspots to help you connect to your favorite channels and the web while away from home. Verizon also offers Digital Voice, a 100% digital phone system that uses Verizon's fiber optic network to help you place and receive clear digital calls. Digital voice offers the same speed and reliability as the rest of the FiOS products. Plus you'll also get all of the familiar features you are used to with your current phone provider including: caller ID, call waiting and voice mail.

Customer Service - This is where the two differ. Comcast has a history of negative reviews of their customer service. In fact, they are sometimes held responsible for the bad reputation that cable companies have been given when it comes to customer care. Verizon has received top marks from both customers, and from independent reviewers. Outages - Verizon is a newer provider, and there have been some outages as they work out the kinks in new locations.

One point that has not been covered in this overview is that the fiber optic technology that Verizon uses is superior to what Comcast has. The picture is clearer, and they have the capability to offer more channels for a lower price.

You can actually save more if you get a larger bundle that just get one service at a time. Plus it's more convenient to let one party handle a number of services. It's a lot less confusing when it comes to paying bills.
