Using Microsoft Publisher Business Card Templates

By Jeannie Chapman

Setting up your own business can mean you have a lot of costs. You may not necessarily have the budget to find a graphic designer to create a fancy business card for you. However with a bit of ingenuity it is possible to use Microsoft Publisher Business Card templates.

Before you use the program it is worth considering what is best suited to your product or service. What works for one particular company may not be suitable for another. For example if you are an artist then you want to show off your images as much as possible whereas a finance company may want something a bit simpler and focus mainly on the services they offer.

There are different types available. What you need to consider is whether or not you want a single or double sided card. A single sided one is ideal if you only have a few details that you need. There is also the added advantage that if you need to write a note for a potential client there is something to write on. For example you may want to let them know about an upcoming event or special offer and having it written down will often be a good reminder.

Another thing to consider is whether or not you want a single or double sided design. A single design is best if you want to reduce the amount of printing costs involved. This is especially the case if you want to start with a small amount of cards and not use a professional printer. If you do choose to use a professional printer remember to ask them about the quality of image they want. High resolution images are best because they will not look fuzzy when you print them.

A single sided design works best for people who only have a few contact details and a basic summary of your business. However a double sided design is best for adding more information such as special offers or if you want to encourage people to visit your website. The back is also a good place to put on a map, ideal if you are a new company and you want people to be able to find you!

You also need to think about whether you want a portrait or landscape orientation. A lot of companies use landscape orientation as people tend to put their cards in either wallets or lanyards. Remember to print preview so you can be sure that all the information is included in the final print and that you do not waste money printing incorrect information or miss details off the bottom of the page.

It is also important to ensure that you keep your information up to date. You could have a lot of customers trying to contact you who may not be able to because you gave them outdated information at a networking event. You also need to be sure that it is legible and the text is big enough for people to read.

As well as the Microsoft Publisher Business Card templates included with the program there are various websites that provide templates online. It is worth looking at these to see what one is best suited to your business as well as looking for tutorials and feedback to help you make the best design for your company!
